Gift Of Righteousness

Romans 5:17 For if by the one man's offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.)

Just as Adam's sin brought a reign of death, so did the death and resurrection of JESUS bring a reign of life.

But this does not mean the reign of life is automatic, because it says, we must "receive" the free gift of abundance of grace and righteousness.

Condemnation or Justification

Romans 5:16 And the gift is not like that which came through the one who sinned. For the judgment which came from one offense resulted in condemnation, but the free gift which came from many offenses resulted in justification.

One person offers sin, judgment, condemnation; the other offers a free gift resulting in justification.

The choice comes down to condemnation or justification.

Gift by Grace

Romans 5:15 But the free gift is not like the offense. For if by the one man's offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many.

Since the curse affected many because of what one man started, so also the "free gift" of GOD'S grace through JESUS will abound to many.

Death Reigned From Adam

Romans 5:13-14 For until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law. 14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come.

Adam only had one law. Don't eat of that tree. When he broke the law he sinned, starting the curse to begin.

The curse “death” still reigned after Adam even before the law. It didn’t stop because of one mans wrong; IT BECAME A CANCER TRYING TO TAKE ANY AND ALL.

God Sees You Either Through Adam or Jesus

Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned;

NOW PAUL SPENDS THE REST OF CHAPTER EXPLAINING HOW THE WHOLE SITUATION OF SIN BIRTHED AND WAS PUT TO DEATH

The main idea here in verse 5 is that God sees us either through Adam or JESUS. And we must decide how we want GOD to look upon us.

You Are Made One With God

Romans 5:11 And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.

reconciliation. The King James translation uses the word atonement which helps avoid repetition of the word reconcile from vs.10. The word meanings are very similar,
So to try and show a difference we can say; vs.10's reconciled means your reestablished back into fellowship with GOD. vs.11 reconciliation means you've received atonement or complete forgiveness.

The Old Testament Hebrew atonement made a covering for the sins a (ko-far) but the New Testament Greek word for atonement (kat-al-lag-ay) means you are at one with GOD, because your sins are not covered but are removed as far as the Eest from the West. They’re put away.

Back Into Fellowship With GOD

Romans 5:10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.

Not only am I saved from the wrath to come, I also am reconciled. Or we might say I am brought back into fellowship with GOD.

Back into a right standing before HIM. Not just save from HIS wrath but brought back into HIS love.

Justified By His Blood

Romans 5:9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.

Much more and that's not all. Paul will use this term 4 more times (10, 15, 17, 20) to prove his points in showing the benefits to having a love relationship with God through Jesus.

1st benefit mentioned here is this relationship that will save you from the coming wrath. That is the judgment that must come because of sin. A judgment that GOD must enforce to maintain HIS righteousness.

For the wages of sin is death.

But GOD in HIS great love has provided a way out of this judgment, JESUS.

His Great Love Looks Beyond Our Behavior

Rom 5:7-8 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

HE has already demonstrated HIS love, what we must ask ourselves is, will we respond to it?

1 John 4:9-11 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

In Romans verse 8, Paul is trying to explain the depth and character of GOD'S love for us.

Showing that maybe a person might die in the place of someone they view as good. BUT JESUS DID FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE BAD LIVING IN THEIR SINS.

Jesus was willing to show his great love towards us by dieing for us before we even wanted to have anything to do with HIM. HIS great love looks beyond our behavior.

However in order for us to obtain it we must receive

Character of Gods Love

Romans 5:6 For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

Having already mentioned the pouring out of Gods love through the Holy Spirit(in Romans 5:5). Paul now explains the character of Gods love. Which seems to go far beyond our ability, I think to even comprehend.

without strength, = lost in our sins, not aware of God's love or plan of salvation through JESUS.

Christ died for the ungodly. = Sinners, all sinners.

Hope Does Not Disappoint

Romans 5:5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

My tribulation can disappoint (better word is shames) if I forsake my hope in GOD,
but if I don't my tribulation can draw me to a deeper love with GOD through the Holy Spirit that never shames. But instead actually draws me closer through the tribulations producing (vs.4)patience, character and hope

We need to look past the difficult event, knowing that GOD is in control. Sometimes I think we get like Job’s wife. Job 2:9 Then his wife said to him, "Do you still hold fast to your integrity? Curse God and die!"

The Holy Spirit serves many functions in the life of a believer; one very important function is for you to personally know that GOD loves you and HIS spirit can dwell in you is proof of that love.

1st HIS spirit is on the outside “with you” as JESUS said in John 14:17 "the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

Once a person accepts JESUS and becomes born again, the Holy Spirit enters their heart to serve many functions, PROOF THAT GOD LOVES YOU IS ONE.

GOD also proved HE loved us in what HE did through JESUS.
John 3:16
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Romans 5:8
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Faith Through Experience

Romans 5:4 and perseverance, character; and character, hope.

Notice the progression. Tribulation produces perseverance (patience), which produces character (experiences), which takes me back to hope (faith) in a GOD who loves me and knows what’s best for me

I would never choose to go this route, but thank GOD who loves me enough to not only bless me but to teach me though experiences.

Experiences that can strengthen my faith and keep me in that place that I will never be disappointed or ashamed.

Tribulation Produces Perseverance

Romans 5:3 And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance;

We do?? We do when our eyes are on GOD.

Many Christians only want the blessings and don't believe GOD would have them go through difficult times. But they miss out on a development of perseverance and character that can only come through tribulations.

The late Keith Green once sang a song that said, "Bless me LORD bless me LORD you know that’s all I ever hear, no one aches, no one cares, no one even sheds one tear."I think Keith knew that if our relationship was just blessings, there would be no depth to our character, only shallowness.

Jesus said in Matthew 5:11 "Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. 12 "Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

and in Matthew 7:13 " Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 "Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

When our thinking of Christianity is limited to blessing only we’re not following Biblical teachings.

I think the neat thing about tribulations is you know GOD is doing something. On the other side of that experience will be a deeper understanding of GOD. A closer relationship. Something better then we could of ever developed.

And remember GOD will not allow you to go through something that is beyond your ability. OH WE COULD QUIT AND FORSAKE GOD BUT IT'S NOT BECAUSE GOD ALLOWED MORE THEN WE CAN HANDLE, IT'S BECAUSE WE WOULD NOT ALLOW GOD'S WAY IN OUR LIFE

The Biblical Christian life comes with outstanding blessing, times of abounding and it also comes with tuff tribulations, times of abasing. In both we should be rejoicing KNOWING that it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

Our Hope Is In the Glory of God

Romans 5:1-2 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Romans Chapter 5 Paul tells us the blessings that come with justification by faith.
Blessings that I believe GOD wants us all to experience. As well as some difficulties that come with being a Christian.

Remember "Justified" means "just as if I never did it." The 1st result of justification by faith is peace with God. My slate is clean there is no record of my wrongs. God chooses to remember them NO MORE.

If justification depended on my works, some days I’d have peace and some days I would not, it would depend on my performance. There seems to be an inconsistency at times between my Christianity and my walk. I do not always do those things that are pleasing to GOD. I cannot say with Jesus “I do always those things that please the father,” I wish could but in all honesty I can't. Sometimes my works are really good other times they’re not.

Since my justification is dependant upon my faith in JESUS and HIS perfect works, not my imperfect works. I have peace and vs. 2 I also have access into GOD'S grace meaning I’ll get what I don't deserve or I’ll get that that GOD has for me.

Knowing this causes me to experience more blessings. I rejoice because my hope is in the glory of God or in the purposes of GOD. NOT MY ABILITY or LACK OF ABILITY. What a wonderful thing for GOD to do.

What A Blessing It Is When Our Faith Is In Jesus

Romans 4:25 who was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification

because of our justification. Christ's resurrection was for our justification; i.e., as a proof of God's acceptance of His Son's sacrifice.

delivered up for our offences

raised up for our justification.

This is why it is so important we believe that JESUS died and rose again. HIS death takes away our offences and HIS raising replaces them with justification or righteousness.

WHAT A BLESSING IT IS - WHEN OUR FAITH IS IN JESUS.

Put Your Faith In Jesus

Romans 4:23-24 Now it was not written for his sake alone that it was imputed to him,24 but also for us. It shall be imputed to us who believe in Him who raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead,

GOD didn't record this story for Abraham’s sake period. But so we could see how it applies to our lives also. Abraham put his faith in GOD'S promises. AND SO DO WE WHEN WE PUT OUR FAITH IN JESUS.

Accounted To Him for Righteousness

Romans 4:22 And therefore "it was accounted to him for righteousness."

"accounted to him for righteousness." not because Abraham caused these things to happen, but simply because he believed GOD at HIS word.
